Competition between SolFocus and Concentrix on new press releases and enhanced efficiencies is getting warmer

They both still hold a top-level position among the CPV producers, and seem to be the only two CPV companies that are on the right path for reaching grid parity in the very near future.

SolFocus to Deploy CPV Systems in Greece

Concentrix Solar opens its industrial automated production line in Freiburg Germany with its fully automated production, Concentrix Solar holds a top-level position among the producers of concentrator PV modules

Efficiencies:

Since October 2008, Concentrix Solar has produced a new generation of modules which are more cost efficient and once again have higher efficiencies than their predecessors. External measurements performed at Fraunhofer ISE confirm a new average module efficiency of 27.2 percent.

In comparison, the SolFocus newly-released 1100S system achieves panel efficiencies of 25 percent,

while typical silicon modules reach efficiencies between 13 and 14 percent.

At present Concentrix Solar produces modules with a staff of 60 people. Next year this number is expected to increase to 100. The company has an especially close working relationship with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE for carrying out further developments on the FLATCON® technology.

SolFocus has reached agreement with Concept, a division of the Samaras Group, to jointly develop the first commercial installation of Concentrator Photovoltaic solar technology in Greece. The deployment will have the capacity to produce 1.6 megawatts (MW) of power using the SolFocus 1100S system.

It seems that the next race between Concentrix and SolFocus will be at the Timna site in southern Israel, where 5 to 10 PV or CPV deployment initiatives (based on licensing and feed-in tariff) will be announced.

USDOE Secretary-designated and President Peres invited to attend the Eilat International Renewable Energy conference

Professor Steven Chu, a Nobel Prize winner in Physics, who is running the Lawrence Berkely National Laboratory, is pursuing research to use SOLAR ENERGY TO GENERATE LOW COST CHEMICAL FUELS.

Our sources tells us that his first visit outside the US following his nomination will be  (if accepts the invitation by his local colleagues) to meet  professor Aldo Steinfeld, head Solar Technology Laboratory, Paul Scherrer institute and Professor Jacob Karni from the Weizmann Institute, at the Renewable Energy international Conference in Eilat in Feb 2009. The three of them will discuss at this most excting conference the next generation of solar thermal technologies  and how it can contribute to solving world’s energy and climate issues.

President Shimon Peres was invited to open this event, which one of its goals is to initiate an international collaborative work plan. Integration of Renewable energy sources into the grid – is another huge issue that will be discussed at the conference, and The Peace Smart Grid, which could start in Israel and be applied globally – will be presented and brianstormed.

“His appointment should send a signal to all that my administration will value science” -

President elected, Barack Hussein Obama on -

Nobel Prize-winner, Professor Steven Chu, that was announced as the next DOE secretary.

This blog, from its very beginning, is pursuing the sense and power of technology and innovation as the essential track for solving the energy problems. Chu seem to be the person to contribute and building this trend. He believes, ike we do for the last 30 years, that TECHNOLOGY IS THE ANSWER, especially technlogies that we don’t have yet.

We are excited and proud of this nomination!!!

We need to stop emissions, not only to reduce them.

And for that we need NEW Clean Energy Technologies!

100% clean energy is the ONLY right answer!

Professor Steven Chu -

put your best foot forward and get off to a good start!!!

P.S. Even if you will not be able to attend the most exiting renwable enrgy conference in Eilat in February 2009, we’ll study and bring your main quotes to all the respectful audience.

It seems like we are heading a quantum leap in regarding to innovation and energy. Hopping you are going to be a mover and shaker, like you are an innovator!

It’s a matter of sink or swim!
